Stayed
in Lucknow where is the capital of Uttar Pradesh of
Indian last night, we began to hurry on our way to Kośalā
in early morning. Kośalā was the ancient kingdom of
center at that time, and also one of 16 big countries too.
Buddha once lived in here for 25 years from beginning to end,
many Buddhist Sūtra and Dharma were declared
and said here to spread, so there were a lot of famous ruins be
retained. The most obvious sign thing is that King Aśoka
would build a large stūpa (tower) and a stone pillar in
these ruins, so can be named Aśoka Stupa and Aśoka
Pillar. Though Kośalā was once in fashion for a time ,
by the early years of the 5th century A.D., it had been already
neglected at the time by the record of Far-shian who
came from China, when Xuan-zang passed here after 200
years later had already become the ruins.
In
the journey that we pass by, the most worth recommending are
Śrāvastī ruins and Jetavana Anāthapiņdasyārāma.
At first we came to Sravasti where the capital of
Kośalā in ancient times, from about 17 kilometers of
Balrumpur, the old ruins of city at present have already
been excavated out by the archaeologist. To base on the
remaining building ruins, we can still find out the
ostentatiously prosperous before.
