At
Shravasti
stayed for one night after,
the main journey of this morning was to go to Kapilavastu,
the homeland where Buddha was still of prince's identity. Here
now day is near the south of Tilori-Kot in Nepal, and
the northeast of River Rapti. Kapilavastu was
only the vassal state of Kośalā. In north India they
implemented the republicanism system at that time, the
organization was mainly consisted by ten small city states, and
they elected the most potent city master to be their leader, the
father of Buddha King Śuddhodana that was the leader at
that time. What we saw about the ruins of Kapilavastu
in our journey, we have found the old palace of King
Śuddhodana.
The
people of Kapilavastu mainly were Śākya clan,
so what we know the name Śākyamuni of Buddha in fact
indicated the “muni” (sage) of “Śākya”(clan).
Buddha’s real name was Siddhartha. But in old age of
Buddha his Śākya clansmen were massacred by King
Virūdhaka of Kośalā. After exterminating
Kapilavastu had fallen into disuse from then, when Far-shian
got here in the early years of the 5th century only saw several
dozen houses, and then saw Xuan-zang came here in the
8th century saw the Stūpa and Aśoka Pillar, as
for this stone pillar had already been excavated out in 1897.
